Help
Questions we hear often.
Straight answers about accounts, moving money, lockers and the app, in the bank's own words.
01 · Accounts
Opening and holding an account.
What do I need to bring to open an account?
Bring your identification to the head office. Our staff will confirm whatever else is needed for the account you choose and open it with you there.
Can a business open an account?
Yes. Bring the business's registration documents to the head office and our staff will guide you through opening a business account.
02 · Moving money
Sending and receiving.
How do I send money within The Gambia?
Money transfers within The Gambia are arranged in person at the head office today. The Tong Shang app will add this to your phone, but it is still in development.
How do I receive money sent from abroad?
Ask our staff at the head office which international transfer services the bank supports and they will explain how to receive a payment sent to you.
How is the exchange rate set?
The bank sets its exchange rates each morning and publishes them at the head office. See today's figures on the rates page.
03 · Lockers and cash
Keeping things safe.
How do safety deposit lockers work?
A locker sits inside the bank itself. Speak to our staff at the head office and they will arrange access with you.
Who can access my safety deposit locker?
Access is arranged with our staff at the head office, so only you and anyone you authorise can open your locker.
Can I ask about lockers without opening an account first?
Yes. Visit or call the head office and our staff will talk you through how a locker fits alongside your banking.
Where do I go with a general cash query?
The head office on Gambia Street handles cash queries in person. See how to reach us.
04 · The app
Ask Tong and what comes next.
What is Ask Tong?
Ask Tong is a personal CFO built into the Tong Shang app, grounded in your own accounts and activity, that helps you see the whole picture and plan ahead.
Can Ask Tong move my money on its own?
No. Ask Tong prepares a payment, a transfer or a credit request and lays out the consequences. Nothing moves until you confirm it.
When will the app be available?
The app is in development and there is no release date to announce yet. Email us to register your interest and we will let you know when it opens: see contact the bank.
How do I reach a person at the bank?
Visit the head office, call, or write to us. Full details are on the contact page.
